Pre-Application Documents
1. Curriculum Vitae (CV)
- • The CV must include the following personal information: full name (as written in passport), photograph, sex, date of birth, age, and citizenship.
- • Education Record: List all academic history from oldest to most recent. If the original name is not in English, provide the English name.
- • Continuity Requirement: Ensure there are no unexplained gaps longer than 1 month. Any gaps must include a brief explanation.
- • The CV must be submitted in PDF format.
2. Digital Photo
For visa and administrative processing, a digital photo (JPEG or PNG) is required. It must strictly follow the Immigration Services Agency of Japan (ISA) standards.

Provide a high-quality scan of the identification page.
- Passport must be valid for the entire duration of the intended stay in Japan.
4. Letter of Financial Guarantee
A signed letter or formal email from a parent or guardian is required to confirm financial support. Please use the template provided below and send the completed document to coronadozuniga.enrique@aist.go.jp.

What additional documents are required if I am pre-selected?
01 Accident & Disaster Insurance
You must provide written proof of accident insurance equivalent to the Japanese "Gakkensai" (Personal Accident Insurance for Students Pursuing Education and Research). The document must explicitly state:
- Valid within Japan
- Coverage for the entire training period
- Medical expenses for illness/injury/death
- Personal liability (optional)
02 Potential Round-Trip Flight
Provide your intended flight details for visa and administrative planning. Please specify the departure and arrival airports (e.g., Mexico City AICM to Tokyo Narita NRT).
Final Acceptance Documents
Additional specific documents may be required based on your home institution. These will be communicated to you individually once the formal acceptance process begins.
What happens if my internship is longer than 3 months (90 days)?
Internships exceeding 90 days require a Cultural Activities Visa. To facilitate this, we must process a Certificate of Eligibility (CoE) through the Japanese Immigration Bureau. This is a standard legal procedure for long-term research stays.
Main Requirement: Financial Solvency
You must demonstrate that you have the fixed total amount in your bank account to cover 175,000 JPY per month for the entire duration of your stay.
For a 5-month internship, your bank statement must show a minimum balance of:
- • Bank Statement: A PDF copy of a recent statement showing the total amount. It must include an English translation.
- • Financial Sponsorship: If using a parent's account, you must provide a copy of your Birth Certificate (with English translation) to verify the relationship.
